"In March, 30-year old Amina Lawal was sentenced to death by stoning in Katsina, Nigeria for having a child outside marriage. She had not legal representation in during her trial and her partner and father of her child was acquitted for "lack of evidence". Her appeal hearing is to resume on Monday July 8. In a perversely 'humane' twist, if the appeal is lost the stoning will be postponed until January 2004 to allow her to wean her baby daughter."
